'The City of Derby Girls Choir'

 Voices has its own home - Voices Hall at VoiceBox in the town centre. We rehearse 5.30 - 7.30 on Thursdays, with extra rehearsal on concert days 3 or 4 times a year. We sing a huge variety of songs - madrigals to musicals, sacred and secular, jazz and pop, old music, new music. We have singers from lots of different schools and several different counties. Voices is 16 years old and we've said happy hellos and sad goodbyes to hundreds of girls. From time to time, ex-members of Voices meet and perform as a chamber choir 'Sequenza'.
Singers have some great opportunities: concerts in some superb UK venues; singing solos; singing in smaller chamber groups; singing with VoiceMale in Derby Youth Choir; making CDs; singing in competitions; world premieres of new choral works - and that's all happened recently! But perhaps the best opportunity of all is going abroad on our annual choir concert tour. The list of venues which have welcomed 'The City of Derby Girls Choir' reads like a list of Europe's finest: Notre Dame and La Madeleine in Paris, St Mark's in Venice, the Duomo in Florence, Barcelona Cathedral, Salzburg Cathedral, Cologne Cathedral, the Berliner Dom and the Thomaskirche in Leipzig where Bach was master of the music. August 2011 saw Voices and Derby Youth Choir performing in Canterbury Cathedral, Bruges, Gent, Paris, Rouen and at the Menin Gate ceremony. In 2012, we continue with the Northern Europe theme, performing in Brussels Cathedral, Cologne Cathedral and other Rhineland churches.  The choir's contribution to the Menin Gate ceremony in 2011 was so valued that we were requested to return: we shall respond to that invitation as we head towards Germany in 2012
